The Depressed Cake Shop Singapore is part of a global movement to raise funds and awareness for oft-ignored mental health issues via the selling of Grey cakes and baked goods.
Pre-CoVid, the Depressed Cake Shop would have been a pop-up bake sale. But in light of the current pandemic, our very first Singapore Depressed Cake Shop will be organised a little differently!
We invite all bakers of ALL ages and abilities to please bake for us “depressed” but delicious cakes (any type of grey treats actually!). We also invite bakeries, cafes, homebakers or professionals to consider pledging an item from their store, giving our non-baking hosts an option to purchase their grey treats.
To the creators - unleash your creativity in producing what YOU feel depression may look like in a cake/cupcake/cookie. It may be grey and sombre on the outside, hiding a rainbow on the inside to represent hope and recovery. It could be bright on the outside but sad on the inside, like the many people who suffer from depression and other mental health issues but continue to wear a cheerful mask to function.
Host a Grey Gathering (within CoVid guidelines of course) and have each attendee pledge a donation, every contribution, big or small, matters.
All funds raised from the grey treats YOU so generously contribute will be donated to the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH). Our humble goal for Singapore's first Depressed Cake Shop is to raise $10,000, and the Singapore Government will match whatever we can raise!
Of greater value than the already generous monies we hope to raise is the AWARENESS of mental health issues that are prevalent and often still shrouded in stigma in our communities today.

Dearest Val,
We just wanna say a big thank you for being so open and so welcoming to (and so patient with) a bunch of excited newbies halfway across the globe.
Your courage, kindness, generosity and willingness to share are an inspiration to us, and we hope to continue to pay it forward.
Here's to connecting in person one day, and until then, we'll see you (and Hazel) on whatever screens we have in front of us!
