URGENT NOTICE : Dear all, we are sad to announce that Alce's Grey Yin Yoga class for 8th May has been cancelled. Meet Alce. Alce is a full-time graphic design lecturer and freelance yoga instructor by day, and aspiring deejay by night. She loves running, yoga (duh!) and calligraphy.
Last May, Alce faced the biggest struggle of her life. A freak biking accident left her with a fractured skull, a head injury that put her in a coma and required brain surgery. Recovery required multiple forms of the therapy from various physical ones to speech and mental therapy. During her year-long journey to recovery, her body bounced back fairly quickly but her mental health took much longer as she battled anxiety, stress and depression.
Alce recently decided to get back on her bike again to face her fears of cycling and her PTSD (post-traumatic stress syndrome) from the accident. Yin Yoga has been her salvation and her greatest centering tool. When we spoke about Depressed Cake Shop Singapore, Alce lit up and immediately knew this was a project she wanted to give her time to. But she doesn't bake, nor does she have the space to host at home. So she decided she would help gather people and give back the best way she knew how - by teaching. As part of her continuous efforts to heal inside and out, Alce would like to share her practice with anyone - to help them find their calm and center.
In support of Depressed Cake Shop SG for mental health month, Alce is offering three outdoor Grey Yin Yoga classes on Saturdays 8th, 15th and 22nd May at 8am at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Come and join her guided 45-minute Yin Yoga practice surrounded by nature. Please bring your own mat, and in line with our DCS SG theme, if you can, please come in grey with a pop of colour. Grey being the metaphor for the cloud that descends on someone struggling with mental health issues and the pop of colour symbolising Hope and Recovery. Alce is the epitome of this pop of colour ♥️
And there's more! Wellness portal Voices Wellness, who has also been an ardent supporter of the Depressed Cake Shop movement, is also a part of this free event. When they heard about Alce's plan, they decided to support her (and us) by gifting Grey treats to all Grey Yin Yoga participants. So for every participant that comes to the class, a small contribution via these grey treats has been made to DCS SG on your behalf from Voices Wellness. Thank you VW team - we are so touched.

YIN YOGA CLASS DESCRIPTION
We all experience difficult periods in life that leave us feeling sad, lonely, or scared. However, some of us deal with these emotions almost daily. The stress and pressure of our daily lives can lead to serious illness and disease if left unchecked. A regular yin yoga practice calms the body and mind, boosts the immune system, and eliminates the toxins that stress creates. Yin yoga is a powerful component of the healing journey.
It also helps us get in touch with our emotions and balance the energies that run haywire throughout the day. As its name implies, this class is an opportunity to take a step back and slow down. Enjoy longer and deeper stretches with a focus on breathing and flexibility. Sometimes, we use props such as blocks and straps to help improve mobility safely and release tension that may have been built up from more intense physical activities and our day-to-days. Postures in this class are entirely seated and lying down for maximum relaxation.
A note from Alce :
“With the past 40 years' experience, I have travelled to east and west countries. I have gone through up, down, exciting, and challenging moments. I believe in self-improvement and finding the right purpose in our life. And often, with the current situations and require
ments, we tend to expect a lot of things in our life. And sometimes, we don’t know how to achieve it. As a result, we feel a lot of pressures in our life, and this often brings a lot of sufferings, struggles and painful moments in our life. We always try to find solutions in our life.
“Perhaps, the first step we need to take before making a solution is to love, listen, care and understand ourselves. I also believe that LOVING OURSELVES certainly makes it easier to love and support others. When we spend time to love, care, appreciate and listen to ourselves, mind, body and soul, this activity gives us a zen, quiet and mindful time, and supports us with a great positive energy that allows us to be more patient, wiser and aware of all decisions we make in our life. Lastly, as Rick Warren mentioned that You Heal from Pain by Helping Others”.
